What would Simon say?
The office used for years as the investigative headquarters of TV's “Simon & Simon” wouldn't be recognized by actors Gerald McRaney and Francis Jameson Parker today. It's been transformed by the Italian Pininfarina designers of Maserati and Ferrari fame into an ultra-modern suite. Bye-bye old battered furniture. Hello sofa-shaped whirlpool tub (along the living room wall), espresso machine, Bang & Olufsen plasma HDTV and sound system, all set in a high-tech gray, black, red color scheme.
The historic Gaslamp building at Fourth and F streets has turned into a 35-room hotel but still bears its old name, The Keating.
During renovation, hotel owner Edward Kaen saved the old oak and glass door used by “Simon & Simon” in the '80s. Last week, he gave it to Cathy Anderson, head of the San Diego Film Commission, for the agency's archives.
